Spay and Neuter Services
Many people are surprised to learn that nationwide more than 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters. Unfortunately, a lot of these animals are the offspring of owned pets that are not spayed or neutered. To help reduce the numbers of unwanted animals, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is committed to offering low-cost options for spay and neuter services.
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton offers several spay and neuter services to the public. Listed below are some of the programs available. However, please call the Humane Society at 937-268-PETS (7387) for complete information.
RASCAL
RASCAL is a veterinary clinic based in Dublin, OH. Once a month or more, RASCAL visits the Humane Society of Greater Dayton with a mobile veterinary clinic. RASCAL offers many services to the public including spay/neuter of dogs, cats, and rabbits, dental cleanings, vaccinations, heartworm testing, FIV/Feline Leukemia testing, worming treatments, basic wellness exams and more. RASCAL does not require an income check to be eligible for services.
Because of its popularity, RASCAL appointments book quickly. All clients interested in using RASCAL’s services must visit the Humane Society (1661 Nicholas Road, Dayton, OH 45418) to complete paperwork and pre-pay in cash or with a credit card before any surgery date will be reserved. Checks are not accepted for this program.
Exact prices are determined by the animal species, sex, weight, and special medical issues (i.e., cryptorchids, hernia repairs, pregnant, in heat, etc.). Prices are subject to change. Please call the Humane Society at 937-268-PETS (7387) for detailed information regarding your pet.
NOMAD
NOMAD operates a mobile veterinary clinic that visits the Humane Society of Greater Dayton once or twice a month. NOMAD offers low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats only. NOMAD also offers vaccines and parasite treatment on the day of surgery. NOMAD does not require an income check to be eligible for services.

FERAL CATS
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton offers free spay and neuter surgeries for feral cats. Feral cats are cats that have had little or no human socialization and generally cannot be touched by people. Participants in this program must be willing to feed and care for the feral cat(s). To participate, you must call the Humane Society at 937-268-PETS (7387) to register for a surgery date.
For the safety of staff, feral cats must be brought in humane cat traps on the day of surgery. The Humane Society rents traps for this program for a fee when traps are available.
Cats in the program will not be tested for any diseases, vaccinated, de-wormed or flea treated. The Humane Society is only able to provide spay and neuter services. In addition, one ear of the cat will be tipped (approximately ¼ inch of the ear will be removed while the cat is under anesthesia). The ear tip is a universal sign that the cat has been spayed or neutered.
The feral cat program is grant funded and very popular. For these reasons, only truly feral cats are eligible and surgery dates fill very quickly. Please call the Humane Society at 937-268-PETS (7387) for more information.
NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAM
At certain times during the year, the Humane Society offers other spay and neuter programs. When available, these programs are for families that can show some form of need (i.e., food stamps, disability, etc.). As these programs are only offered occasionally, please call the Humane Society at 937-268-PETS (7387) for more information.
