I Found a Pet.

Lost_DogFound Dogs

If you find a dog who is wearing a license, you can use the Montgomery County Auditor’s website to track down the dog’s owner.

If you cannot locate the dog’s owner, you can take the animal to the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center or call 937/898-4457 to request a pickup. Because we have limited kennel space, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton does not house lost dogs.

If you find a friendly dog who is not wearing
a license and you wish to provide it with a temporary home, call the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center at 937/898-4457 to file a found-dog report. You can also visit the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, the Animal Resource Center or your veterinarian to have the dog scanned for a microchip.

Other resources for finding the dog’s owner:

  • Place an advertisement in your local newspaper. Some newspapers will provide this service
    at no charge.
  • Make fliers and post them around your neighborhood.
  • Visit your neighbors in person and ask them if they recognize the dog.
  • Post the found dog on websites such as petfbi.org or missingpet.net.

Note: The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is not affiliated with the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center. Information regarding the Animal Resource Center’s policies is posted as a courtesy only and should be verified with the Animal Resource Center at 937/898-4457.

Lost_CatFound Cats

The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center accepts stray cats from Brookville, Huber Heights, Kettering, Miamisburg, Vandalia, West Carrollton and Five Rivers MetroParks. The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is a limited intake facility and accepts cats from all other cities and townships within Montgomery County if we have space.

If you have found a stray cat, please give us a call at 937/268-PETS (7387) to see whether we have available space, as we are a limited-intake facility. The Humane Society does not euthanize healthy cats! If we are able to take the stray cat that you have found, we will ask you for a donation of at least $15. This tax-deductible donation will go a long way in allowing our private, nonprofit agency to help stray, free-roaming cats in our community.

It costs the Humane Society of Greater Dayton an average of $250 per animal to provide a warm bed, food, veterinary care, vaccines, tests, a microchip, housing, love and the hope of a better life. Please donate to help animals in need!
