Spays & Neuters
Many people are surprised to learn that nationwide more than three million cats and dogs are euthanized in animal shelters each year. Unfortunately many of these animals are the offspring of owned pets that are not spayed or neutered. To help reduce the number of unwanted animals, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is committed to offering low-cost options for spay and neuter services.
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton offers several spay/neuter services to the public. Listed below and in our Spay/Neuter Services brochure are some of the programs available. Please call the Humane Society at 937/268-PETS (7387) for complete information.

Trap-Neuter-Return Program (Feral Cats)
Feral cats are essentially wild animals: cats who have had little or no human socialization and generally cannot be touched by people. The Humane Society of Greater Dayton's Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program offers free spay/neuter surgeries for feral cats. Participants in this program must be willing to continue feeding and caring for the feral cat(s) brought in for surgery. You must call the Humane Society at 937/268-PETS (7387) to register for a surgery date.
For the safety of staff, feral cats must be contained in humane cat traps on the day of surgery. The Humane Society of Greater Dayton rents traps for this program for a nominal fee, when traps are available.
Cats in the TNR program will not be tested for any diseases, vaccinated, dewormed or flea treated; the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is only able to provide spay/neuter services. During surgery the left ear of the cat will be tipped (removing approximately ¼ inch of the ear while the cat is under anesthesia). The ear tip is a universal sign that the cat has been spayed or neutered.
The TNR program is grant funded and very popular. For these reasons only truly feral cats are eligible, and surgery dates fill very quickly. Please call the Humane Society at 937/268-PETS (7387) for more information.
Neighborhood Program
At certain times during the year, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton offers other spay/neuter programs, collectively known as the Neighborhood program. When available, this program is for families who can show some form of financial need (i.e., food stamps, disability, etc.). As this program is only offered occasionally, please call the Humane Society at 937/268-PETS (7387) for more information.

- Alpha Veterinary Clinic, 2515 Dayton Xenia Rd, Dayton, OH 45434
