Volunteer

volunteerWe would not be successful without our dedicated volunteers. They are at the heart of our operation!

We offer flexible opportunities designed to fit into anyone's schedule. Often you can determine the hours you work and in what capacity. Whether you desire hands-on activities with our pets or want to provide clerical support, there is a place for you as a Humane Society of Greater Dayton volunteer.

Volunteers must attend a short training/orientation session.  All training/orientation sessions are held at the Nicholas Road facility.

Becoming A Foster - A Unique Volunteer Opportunity

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is always looking for foster families. Typically, families foster animals who aren't ready for adoption due to either age or illness. For kittens and puppies too young to be spayed or neutered, foster families take them into their homes and provide a loving environment until they are old enough for surgery and adoption. And for animals who come to the Humane Society with injuries, foster families provide a needed safe environment while they recover and become well enough for adoption.

Foster families are also needed to provide a transitional home for animals when space is no longer available at the main facility. By opening your home to an animal who needs it, you allow the Humane Society to take care of even more animals looking for their forever families.

Fosters go through a training program at the Humane Society and can take in just one animal or more than one, depending on their home situation. Fosters families can also have their information listed as the primary contact for animals in their care on our web site, on PetFinder.com and at the Humane Society, allowing them to become an extra layer of support as we work toward finding homes for all of our great pets. We encourage our fosters to become adoption advocates for the Humane Society. For example, if you are fostering five kittens, we hope you can find five friends looking to add a cat to their home. Fosters not only care for our animals; they help save lives!
